John C. S. Anderson is Head of Corporate Finance at John Hancock and its parent company Manulife. He leads investment teams that originate, underwrite, and manage $100 billion of investments in private equity, private placement debt, and public bonds to support the insurance and other products issued by John Hancock in the US and by Manulife in Canada and Asia. Mr. Anderson is also a member of Manulife’s global investment committee.
Manulife has been a renewable energy investor for more than 20 years, was the first insurance company to join ACORE, and has invested more than $6 billion in renewable energy and energy efficiency as part of being a leading investor in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors.
John spent his first 10 years at John Hancock leading the firm’s Power & Infrastructure investing team in Boston, which he grew from $10 billion to $17 billion of debt and equity investments.
Prior to joining Manulife in 2001, Mr. Anderson worked for 10 years in the New York and London offices of JP Morgan Chase, where he led teams that advised on or arranged more than $8 billion in bank and bond market financing in the power and infrastructure sectors. This work included substantial corporate and project finance work, in both developed (US, France, Germany) and developing (Croatia, Turkey, Colombia, Russia) economies.
John holds an MBA from Georgetown University and a BA in Economics from The University of Chicago. He speaks French, Serbo-Croatian, German, Spanish, and Russian at an intermediate level, and would not be mistaken for a native speaker in any of these languages.
